Which Cities Will Pay You to Move There (and Work Remote)?!

What will it take for you to up and leave to an entirely new state or country?

MAYBE SOME COLD HARD CASH?!

In this article let's talk about the impact of remote work on ruralization and how you can get paid to move!

Remote Work is Causing ruralization

Covid-19 has led to a profound shift in work culture. More people are working remotely than ever, and since more people don't need to live in a specific city for a job, we're seeing a mass exodus from major cities like New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

But, if you're moving from a city because you don't have to work there, where should you go?

You might consider a new city or maybe even an entirely different country, especially if they pay you or provide other incentives.

This brings me to my next point, the re-ruralization of western economies.

There has been a growing divide in the prosperity between rural and urban or metropolitan areas all over the world, with more resources flooding into big cities because they typically attract larger candidate pools and make more sense for businesses to move there.

But now, that's changing with global talent pools.

where you can get paid to move!

HUGE shout out to MakeMyMove.com for a rich database of information on communities across the US paying remote workers to relocate. In addition, I used other sites like Move Buddha and World Scholarship Forum (The Wealth Circle) to source some of the locations both in the US and internationally, but not limited to, the list below:

United States:

  1. Minnesota

  2. Vermont

  3. Tulsa

  4. Alaska

  5. Nebraska

  6. Hawaii

  7. Kansas

  8. (...and more)

International

  1. Greece

  2. Italy

  3. Switzerland

  4. (...and more)

Now restrictions apply, and there is a separate process for each of these opportunities, so if any of them interest you please do your own research. These programs also change over time. But the point is, smaller towns are able to use the changing dynamics of work as an opportunity to draw in talent and, of course, money! An influx of remote workers brings economic development in a sustained fashion.

How good is the wifi?

In the U.S alone, hundreds of rural fiber companies are making massive investments in their networks to provide services to towns. Co-ops and local providers are making investments in their communities because they know it spells long-term success.

My guy Goncalo Hall created the Digital Nomads Village in Madeira Portugal to revive a completely barren village and loaded it with a co-working space, good wifi, and nomads from all over the world.

While there are certainly trade-offs, and potentially unknown consequences or negatives, from the looks of it, moving can help you line your pocket, give you a better quality of life, and provide small towns with the chance to grow.

Should you get paid to move?

Speaking from experience and living in 15 different countries on 5 continents, and multiple states here in the US, there's been nothing more impactful in my life than living in other places. I'm thrilled with the opportunities presented to people in this day and age.

More importantly… you out there watching this can help build a lifestyle that isn’t defined by work.

if you don’t currently work remotely…

If you're not living that right now, you can find a link to The Remote Job Club below, a program that's helped my clients live this lifestyle and can potentially help you too. By signing up for the free version you'll get access to 4,000+ remote jobs updated weekly, and a preview of my road to remote course.
