How to Create Less Waste While Traveling
Weโre selfish.
We use some things for a few minutes that end up in a landfill for thousands of years. Itโs difficult to quantify the detrimental impact of waste that humans continue to create on ๐
However, as much as it can seem hopeless at times, there are still many opportunities to individually change your own footprint.
Iโd argue that travelers have even more of a responsibility to be aware of their effect on the environment. As global citizens and transients, we directly impact more communities as a result of our nomadic lifestyle.
I met Jill on a Remote Year travel program, and I was immediately struck by her dedication to reducing her waste. She shared a few of her tips in this video while we were in Santiago, Chile in March of this year.
Jill's preferences:
๐ Plastic bag โ Reusable bag with kittens on it
๐ Plastic produce bag โ Reusable produce bag
๐ฐ Plastic water bottle โ Aluminum hot/cold canteen with pineapples on it
๐นPlastic straw โ Glass straw
๐ด Plastic cutlery โ Reusable cutlery
๐ฑStyrofoam or plastic food container โ Reusable food container

You may not be able to create global change yourself, but you can control your own awareness and action. By doing so, you might just influence others in the process.
What steps do you take to reduce your personal waste?
