How to Go From 0 to 1 In Your Remote Job Search

The hardest thing for most remote job seekers is getting from 0 to 1.

Meaning, most of the people I talk to are not hearing ANYTHING back from remote employers.

And, they crave just getting a RESPONSE, because that would at least indicate some sort of progress to know they're going in the right direction.

  • Some of them are sending 50 applications a week.

    • (Hint: There's no correlation between sending more applications and increasing your chances. In fact, it's worse to send out 50 without a reply than to send out 0).

  • They are getting connected on LinkedIn and sending messages.

  • They are tweaking their resume, and customizing their cover letters.

But when they continue to hear the sound of crickets every, single, week, it takes a toll.

Sound familiar?

You sit there and EXPECT that you won't get answers.

The uncertainty of the process creates a loop of negativity. Then, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The droves of desperation, frustration, and resentment force you to quit.

You stop giving a shit.

The worst part?

Even if you wanted to pull up by the bootstraps and turn it around, you genuinely have no f'n clue where to start.

Is it my resume? Is it the way I'm talking to them? My cover letter? LinkedIn? The wrong companies? Overqualified? Under qualified?

Why can't they just give me some damn feedback!

Here's where it can change...

In the picture below is one of my clients. Let's call him D.

Oh, and by the way, this was the FIRST APPLICATION we did together.

Cleared the 1st round of candidate removal

He's in my mentorship program, and after months of zero responses from dozens of remote companies, he came to me.

We worked right away to define the role he would pursue.

See, before that he was a "jack of all trades" - and we needed to get hyper targeted.

One word of advice: companies don't ever want someone to be "half good" at everything

They want someone to do the job. And D is good. He's a high performer in his field, but he was still switching roles into something he's never done, with limited experience in that area.

Because of that, his messaging was way off.

It wasn't specific. It wasn't articulating his value. It was all over the place.

We completely overhauled his resume, LinkedIn, and how he described himself.

After gutting that, we targeted very specific companies he wanted to go after.

He narrowed it down, and we found one that had a soon-to-expire listing for the role he was applying for.

He had a couple of hours. We came up with a strategic, unique application package that got him to the next round.

And that's what it's all about.

It's not about getting a remote job.

It's about getting to the next step.

It's a process, and those who respect it, remain present, and focus on just the base hit, rather than the home run, are the ones that WIN.

If you want to learn the exact process to get from 0-1, I'll show you. Your first step is scheduling a deep dive strategy call - so we can get crystal clear on what would be the things you'll need to change immediately to start getting responses.
