How the Coronavirus Will Change the Way the World Looks at Remote Work

Coronavirus beer

Some 38% of American beer drinkers won't buy a Corona "under any circumstance."

Amid all the madness and hysteria about the fate of humanity in the face of this global crisis, that's kinda funny.

I mean, if you're not drinking Coronas because you think it's going to give you the virus, you might be the only person who deserves to get the virus.

Beyond the largely undeserved negative press Corona beer is getting, another trend is emerging.

"Thanks to the Coronavirus, working from home is no longer a privledge, it's a necessity. It's ushering in the world's biggest work from home experiment."

My Prediction

  • The impact of the coronavirus, like other outbreaks, will be just as severe to human psychology and the way that we think, as it is to the economic and physiological conditions we face.

  • Companies who've delayed building a remote work policy or adopting flexible working conditions will be forced to. Many who can't will be out of business, whether because of their business model, or inability to adapt.

  • Organizations advocating or championing remote work will have a huge competitive advantage, and while the economy wanes, companies offering remote tools will thrive (e.g. Zoom Communications video conferencing hitting a record high in the midst of the mania).

For all the bad that comes with something as serious as a viral outbreak - there are positives. The companies who are forced to implement remote working conditions and do so successfully will find an entirely new foundation for their business.

They can realize the productivity gains, offer flexible working conditions to their employees, and save money on office space, all without putting their people at risk. This is another huge reason I advocate for remote work. It's times like this that remind me how important my mission is to help others find legitimate jobs they can do remotely.

  • What do you think of the coronavirus?

  • Are you freaking out?

  • Have you had to stay home to work in fear of catching it?
